I have tried the "I2S direct" mod to my Rotel 965BX. I have directly connected the I2S signals out of SAA7310 to I2S input of a TDA1541A in accordance with the following pinning:
pin 4 (SAA7310) to pin 1 (TDA1541)
pin 3 (SAA7310) to pin 2 (TDA1541)
pin 2 (SAA7310) to pin 3 (TDA1541)

No audio went out of TDA1541, though I measured 44.1 Khz on pin 1, 2.8224 MHz on pin 2, some data on pin 3 when a spinning disc is present.
I need your help.
Regards.
Marco

I2S direct on Rotel 965BX. Great improvement!

The TDA1541 directly connected to SAA7310 now works, and works great! The problem was in a wrong ground connection.
Now the player sounds really much better than using the original SAA7323 bitstream; sound is also better than the one produced by an external CS8412+TDA1541 DAC connected to the SP/DIF output of the 965BX. The I/V and output stage use a 22 ohm resistor followed by a Sowter 8347 transformer. The audio output is connected to my 300B amp using a very very short cable, due to the high output impedance of the DAC.
