Hi,

my ambition is to build a streamer/lossless player with the following specs:
- linux based OS (debian preferred)
- Apple airplay possible
- RCA jack output on the DAC
- mobile support (android)
- lossless support (alac)
- everything should fit in a hifi case with no external devices
- external display with covers would be nice to have, but is not mandatory.

Existing hardware:
- Intel NUC (DN2820 without S/PDIF / Toslink output)
- Raspberry Pi 2

I would prefer to use the NUC, since it offers the possibility to use SATA harddisks, gigabit network and so on. My idea was to connect an USB DAC to grant good sound quality. The market offers a lot of possible solutions for this job and I'm not sure what makes sense for an affordable price. On electronic side I'm not a completely newbie, but advanced knowledge would be way to much. On software side debian is preferred, also mopidy or mpd would be great for the player.

I already spend half a day on the net, but 50 people have 100 opinions so I'd appreciate some experiences from this board.

Thanks for your help!:)
Deckard
