Default Digital Radio

Dunno if this is the place for this. Plus its a subject i know very little about...

Just wondering how digital stations broadcast? Is it based aroud a URL??? How much digital space is available for new stations??? Do you need a broadcast license as with any other radio station??? Any info would be much appreciated.

Digital as in Internet or digital as in digital terrestrial?

Digital terrestrial, as in the new DAB recievers that are now out and about for silly prices.
