In the first place, I would like to mention the following links:

The chip itself is very interesting, I just started to dive into
PDF datasheet...

Well, the idea of posessing a PC that would be connected to
the rest of my equipment is quite thrilling. However there
are some problems that I am unable to overcome when planning
the whole thing.

1. There are are some chips like BB PCM270X however they are
16 bits and stereo only AFAIK.

2. ...so, would it mean that if I wanted to have more than
2 channels (AC3/dTS!) going out from PC with resolution higher
than 16 bits I would have to use... yeah, use what?

Streaming controler for USB/FW and then..?

Undoubtedly IT IS possible to do it, because there's a bunch
of new soundcards that support this (4 eg. Terratec Phase28 USB),
ie. they sport 6 output channels and more than 16 bits resolution.

well it supports full 400mps 1394 throughput.

heres the app note on SPDIF output

i looked at this chip awhile back and found within the first page i was in over my head. I dont know much about that stuff and software. But for someone who does i would think that TI made it pretty straight forward. This chip would be the most ideal computer interface that i have seen. and i am pretty certain i have heard that pioneer used it in one of their recievers.

the company that made the converter in that article as some other really cool stuff here

Hello Benjlv,

well I can agree with you on this TI bridge.

As for teh fact that this is all complicated I guess I'll have to
strain to get it workong but, all things being the same, "the
proof of the pudding is in the eating".

Thanks 4 the link(s).

Am going to study the datasheet tommorow in the morning,
maybe it will be more appealing to me :)
