Smile Sony DVD DVP NS900V mod

Hi, I just realised this player is much better than could be anticipated.
This simple mod meant bypassing the signal path capacitors in the DAC portion (rear side of PCB), mounting a 4k7 resisitor from each output to -15V on the opamp 2114D.
That's all.
Much more clarity in the brass section and better transient and deeper base. Tested with Rachmaninov piano concerto, 3rd movement startup.
(recording by BIS).

On a Mozart piano concerto (nr 22, Sony Classical, Murray Perahia) I could hear even the most minute detail in the piano play.

In my system I now hava clear DC path without any capacitors...
Speakers? only Dali Grand Coupé, 6.5" bass speakers and a treble unit.
Small cabinet.

Hi,

I used to listen those player. not much thing to do IHMO, I tryed some moods.

On the swithing PS for the digital section... nothing to do, maybe the 1 uf with an yellow epcos radial MKT had a darker background.

On the analog pcb : be carefull : the flat wire connection with the digital pcb is fragile.... don't mood to much !

The oap is very good and good here, neutral. Each time I come back with it !

The Silmic I are not bad, you can go without like you or try two Silmic 100 uf in +--+ serie arrangement also. Some serie resitors between oap and rca could be changed by more neutral but the value are so low than maybe you will not hear any differences ! Try Dale through hole or sussumu thin film smd if they feet... But IHMO waste of time.

Silmic one after the 2 transistor must stay, they had a usefull smoothness. you can // the 1000 uF Goldtune with 1 uF green Vishay 1837 MKT, found it better !
Maybe replace these same green MKT near the aop with the same value but FKP2 or MKS2 Wima. I tried better local decoupling Nichicon KZ 100 uF with no special sucees. This player is already good and have an linear tonalbalance... not such of player which you notice at the first listen.... a good compliment for me !
i will stay with it and test as drive source with an external DAC as excellent one in all DVD/SACD/CD player !

Eldam
