I have seen using a Cs43122 in a Pre/dec. Rotel :
After this DAC a TL072C, then the digital volume control and an output stage with a OPA2604 . The strumental result: good until 16bit/44Khz, average on 24bit/48Khz. and up with spectrum noise floor clean but no lower that -130dB. Integral resolution no better than 15.6 bit, S/N weighted 98dB ( the highest measured ) on the multichannel input ( also buffered with TL072C ). Opinion ? Can the TL072C be the reason of this result ? Thanks and regards Marco |

TL072 is sonic poison. Replace them all for something decent like OPA2604 for better sound. Don't know if the measurements become better ( some will ) but it *will* sound better.
I suspect the digital volumecontrol has influence on the results ....

Thanks for the answer.
The volume control is not done with the usual Cs3310 or PGA2311 but with two Toshiba Tc9482 . The strange thing is that Rotel do magnify the use of the CS43122 and the OPA2604 and then between these good chips put several TL072C and some 5532. I cannot understand this in a 3500 $ pre/decoder ........... Regards Marco |

TL072s were state of the art for 1975. I cannot understand anyone passing audio through them now. Replace them with something decent. The OP275 is a good choice. Even the LM833.
