I got interested in building a DAC without oversampling. Here is a link:
http://www.homestead.com/whaan/files/index.html Did anybody tried that type of design? Any opinions and suggestions welcome. |

I have one of these 1x dacs (8412/1702) and I am not absolutely certain that its behaviour is not programme dependent.
It seems to prefer Lemon Jelly, Akasha and Peter Gabriel to anything else. Then again it is still only a prototype with crude resistor i/v stage. But as these things are relatively easy to build especially the TDA1541/3 based ones and those who use them, both diy and commercial, rave about them I say put one together and see for yourself. ray. |

You should have a try.
Here in UK we can also obtain tda 1541 which is also cheap (Cricklewood Electronics), and appears to have better performance figures than the tda1543. I have built this on Veroboard (matrix board with copper strips), and minimal wires between each small board. It does work, but I have taken it to pieces again because I am getting distortion in quiet passages. This may be because my construction method is too basic. |
