Hi All,
I've the above player (Marantz cd63 ki) and it reads and plays disc fine. But the sound is horrible as it has distortion and clipping effect. I've tried both the analogue output and digital output connections and both have distortion. Anyone have any clues where to check first. I'm not to good at reading circuit diagrams but can do visible check to player and maybe some soldering. Any ideas appreciated.

Does it use a separate DRAM chip ?

I've not got a CD63 manual handy I'm afraid but the DRAM chips (if indeed it uses them) are easy to spot because of all the data lines to and fro. They just "hang off" the decoder chip as in that picture in the link. There are no other components off the DRAM chip.
You can always search for any chip numbers to see what they are
