Don't adjust anything, give the mechanism a clean. Often a tiny hair wraps itself around a drive restricting the movement.
Any lubrication?

The mechanism needs a deep cleaning (including lenses). The unit doesn't read its own recordings on CD-RW discs (excluding TOC). The quality of recordings on CD-RW discs is poor (there are C2 errors). I have the service manual, but there is no information about laser pick-up cleaning. Is the isopropyl alcohol safe for lenses?
The official line from Sony many years back was that ISO must not be used on coated optics (typically those with a blue/green tinge) That was a long time ago and I know many do use ISO.
It would be interesting to know what the official recommend is these days for CD/DVD optics. I'm down to my last few ml of Sony lens fluid
