Default Any DAT Guys Here?

Just wondering if there are any other DAT guys here.

I used my Sony DTC-57 DAT to make digital copies of CD's, before there were computer CD copiers. Today DAT tapes are being sold at close-out prices.

I still have my good old DTC-57ES waiting for major refurbishment. The drive has mechanical problems which are well-known for that Sony series.

What exactly are these "well known" issues? From what I've seen, All the Sony home DAT's are pretty much the same. Are there model specific issues?

Default Sony DAT 3 motor machines

I have done some videos on repairing the 3 motor machines. These are the most troublesome but once you know what to do with them they are quite easy to repair. As someone here has said, most of the Sony DATs use the same transport, with minor modifications but the dearer models use a 4 motor version with direct drive reels which is better - although even these can need a tweak of the pot that drives the take up spool.
Anyway, if you have a 3 motor deck ie the DTC-57ES, 750, 59ES, 60ES, ZE700, P7, 690, 670, 790, A6 or PCM-R300 take a look here:

Also here's how to change the head amp caps, something that should be done to all Sony DATs except the PCM-70x0 models:
