I'm shopping for a new head unit (for my car) and noticed that most manufacturers advertise 1 bit DAC. Clarion, on the other hand, advertises dual 24bit DACs. They seem to be the only company that does not have a 1 bit DAC. Is there any exageration or false advertising here? If not, are dual 24 bit DACs much better than a single 1 bit DAC? What's the deal here...

1 bit refers to the techonology "Bitstream".

A Bitstream converter has theorectical resolution equivalent to a
said number of bits output. Crystal DAC's for example used to be
'20 bit' but are now '24 bit' but the technology is '1bit'.

Dual DAC's means using two DAC's in differential mode.

JMO but for car use the basic engineering of the head unit will
be far more important than any flash DtoA's in the spec sheet.

My (rather good) hi-fi CD player 'only' has dual 20 bit DAC's,
I'm in no hurry to replace it.

:) /sreten.
