Hi everyone...

I've recently purchased a Marantz CD16, which I'm using as a transport, and will be making various modifications.

The previous owner replaced the mech once, and reckons that the CDM4 keeps the laser powered up the whole time the player is switched on, and thus that the player will live longer if left switched off except when in use.

Is this indeed the case? Is there anything else that can be done to prolong the laser life?

Hello Isaac,

To switch the laser permanently on does not matter if the lifespan of the laser is not critical. If it is critical the manufacturer would switch it on only during playback. So it is not a problem anyway.

For safety reasons I could imagine the laser to be switched of when not in use.
