Bringing back to life old vertical cd-player

Hi Everyone,

I have an old Technics SL-P10 at home. At the moment it's only as a "visual element" on top of my audio rack.


During past weeks I have been wondering, if it's possible to bring it back to life.

Its laser has been dead for years and replacement laser or optical pickup is no longer available

I have been wondering about 3 options:

  • to replace the laser with some random 780nm laser
  • to replace the optical pickup with Sony KSS213
  • to replace the whole transport with Philips CD-Pro2
So now I turn to you about some ideas. What would be the most realistic way to get my vintage cd-player back to operational conditon?

SL-P10 is know for it's unreliable laser. So there will be a problem with buying another similar player for spares, because sooner or later that laser will also die.
I guess I'm willing to spend upto 500€ on that project, but before buying any parts I want to be sure that salvaging my cd-player is possible.
