Default Transplanting CDM4/19 procedure - how to do it?

The CDM4/19 mechanism has a short flex cable. The corresponding connector on the CD-player's main board is placed under the mechanism. What is the best method of connect/disconnect the flex cable? The CDM4/19 should by attached to the tray mechanism or not?

A good point !!

I always remove the complete mechanism.
It's a bit fiddly, though.

A long thin screwdriver to undo /do the connector helps

If it ain't broke, break it !! Then fix it again. It's called DIY !

There are some differences between CDM4/19 based complete mechanisms (including the tray). In some cases the spindle motor is connected with the main board with 2 wires, in other cases - with 3 wires (with the gnd wire). The tray motors are differ too. What do You suggest - transplant the complete mechanism or the laser pick-up unit only? Are there the other differences in the tray mechanism in Philips/Marantz players with CDM4/19? Are the spindle and tray motors from different units interchangeable?
