dear mr. fedde
I have looked a little bit your nonoz & nonoz II page and noticed that you said that the output capacitors 3.3nF on I/V conversion resistor are to high. I have noticed that myself - I put 3.3nF multilayer smd cap's and I will change them into 2.2nF. Question - how can multilayer smd cap's affect my sound against the styroflex or silver-mica? Also where is the best place to find Sanyo Oscon SH series on affordable price (also I would need to find some Riken's and Black Gates but I know where to find them- maybe where to buy them all together- oscon, BG's and riken's). i am from croatia p.s. my dac is little bit rough on high tones. I have silver PiO (0.1uF) in paralel with Rifa polypropilene (4.4uF) output cap's, riken's (Vref=1.32k, I/V=2.2k) and smd multilayer cap's (3.3nF) in nonoz II configuration. Power supply is cca 6.5V so I have Uref=2.2Vdc. soundstage is perfect. Any suggestions? thanx

Minicircuits transformers came from Guido Tent who does not stock them anymore.
Although I'm not Fedde I'll answer your question. Get rid of the smd 3.3 nF caps and find some styroflex/silver-mica 2.2 nF caps. You'll like your DAC better... All the parts you describe are more or less easy to find here. Not too easy, one has to do some effort.

thanx jean-paul!
Fedde told me about guido and transformers. I will try directly at minicircuits page. If they can't help me them I will ask guido if he has something else. I found in my junk yard some styroflex 2.2nF and some 1nF so I will put them in. Also I will try my dac with some battery supply on TDA. Hope it would sound better with batteries. I think that my power transformer for TDA is little bit to small. thanx daniel |
