TOSHIBA OPH-32 Pick-up

Hello all.

Does anyone have any experience with the Toshiba OPH-32?

I have a Trio (Kenwood) DP-700 and just looking to see if these laser units are available or interchangeable?

Thanks

check out post #43 about

and search for the there mentioned other cd player models which have the same optical pick up in use.
until now I had not yet replace this Toshiba optical pick up.
Also in your case it is more likely, that other reasons for not play discs are present - e. g. the servo circuits or rf section.

Helpful is an addidional cd player device, where the same pickup is in use (for cross-checking).

Hi there..

Many thanks for the links and information. Forgive me for being a newbie to cd player lasers but how can I check for the other things that may be wrong like servo circuits or rf sections?

What's happening is that the player skips quite a lot, it seems to skip backwards (mostly) rather than forwards and it also has trouble playing some original cd's too.. I have one cd that when it's loaded up the drive makes a loud clicking sound to which I have no idea what it's trying to do. It plays a certain type of cd-r but others makes don't play at all.

Many thanks

At first step clean the lens. Then you need an oscilloscope and a service manual.
Observe the RF level value by various CD's and CDR's and compare to that one mentioned in the service handbook.
If this should give no clear indication you have no chance to fix the error reasons without a second CD player model in good working condition for compare.

Ah, righto... Do you know if this laser/transport is a good one and worth fixing?

I really like the way it sounds so I think I'll try and find a man who can :)

Many thanks for your help.

Here is the Service Manual for the Toshiba XR-Z70, which uses the OPH-32.
The XR-Z70 had many clones from other companies, I.e. Luxman DX-103,
Kenwood-DP1100B
The DP-700 is a direct clone from the Toshiba XR-Z60 but no service manuals can be found.
