May AYA II, Revision A DAC
Hi. These are pictures of my own version of the popular AYA II, Revision A dac. Since the original kit was no longer available, and I had access to the kit details from a friend, I made my own. Searching for a case solution, I came across an original Ayre QB9 case, silver color on Audiogon. I bought it and designed a custom rear panel from Front Panel Express.
This is the latest version 2, revison A with selectable SPDIF and USB inputs, sophisticated shunt power supplies, latest polyphenyle sulphide SMD TDA1541 filter caps. This very special DAC is custom built with separate power transformers for each supplies and Ayre power input filter and original QB9 Ayre case. There is a real 75 ohms SPDIF input connector and transformer coupled digital input. Audiophile grade parts are used throughout such as the now impossible to get Black Gate NX output caps, Allen Bradley carbon composite resistors, Rubycon ZA caps, Cardas connectors, EAR vibration control feet, 6N pure copper interconnect wires, etc. The USB is auto detected by the PC, no need for a special driver and it is the standard synchronous CD quality type. Controls are:Two front switches (under the front panel): Power On and SPDIF/USB selector.Three Led indicators (behind the Ayre case central window): Central Power On led indicator, left SPDIF Lock, Right USB Connected led.
