Please advise: SM5843 and 24-bit data
Hello,
I'm sorry if this is an silly question, but what would an SM5843 digital filter do if fed with 24-bit data? Would it just disregard higher (>20) bits or wouldn't it work at all? Yes I have read the datasheet and done the "Googling" but I haven't really found anything conclusive. Then again - I'm really not an expert on digital audio. Any help is greatly appreciated. Attached is link to SM5843 datasheet http://www.semiconductorstore.com/pdf/sm5843.pdf Edit: And here I go and grab the first icon that seems inviting. Next time I will try harder. Corrected way to present an link to datasheet: http: www semiconductorstore com pdf sm5843 pdf |
Have a look at figure 8 or figure 9 on p.19: they comment that data after bit 20 is ignored. So it seems you can feed 24-bit data if truncation is not an issue for you.

Thank you. Seems that It's worth a try.
