remote control for CD104

I'm picking up a Philips CD104 that I had in storage for a long time, what great sound these still give!

The only thing missing might be remote control.... Then I saw in the service manual it has I2C. Then some online search gave me a RC5 receiver with I2C support so I was wondering what the experts say about this, would it be possible to get ths working with a 104?

Would be great to control this one from the couch :)
