Hi All

I will have my DAC 7 delivered next week
I will also try upgraded OPA627 op amps

From the Farrell site in the UK which items do a need to purchase?
I assume they slip directly into the sockets on the PCB?

OPA627APG4

or

OPA627BP

On the ebay web site of the DAC-7 there is a link to upgrade the opamp's.

I got them from:
1 Pieces Dual to Mono OPA627AU OPA627 FREE SHIPPING | eBay

I don't wish to offend any sellers, but there have been lots of reports (in general, over the years) of fake opa627 (and other expensive) op-amps.

if you are going to get something serious like that, might as well order the parts from known distributers.

That can be very true for sure.

I can only confirm that my (maybe fakes) 627's sound very, very good. Way better than the "original" OPA2604.

Thanks for the advice on the OpAmps. I ordered some of those quality sounding fakes too-)

My DAC 7 has now arrived!! Does anyone have the DAC 7 schematic. I want to ensure I wire it up correctly...
If so could you mail it to davidsimpson25@hotmail.com.

Final question. Has anyone upgraded to the TOXO 1ppm clock?

Does it deliver any improvement??

many Thanks
Dave

I'm not totally convinced that the quality of the clock (on the wolfson) matters. I've read both viewpoints, but the spec sheet talks about using a crystal and not an oscillator. that, to me, is a give-away that a clock is NEEDED but not critical to the quality of the output stream.

wish we had conclusive info on that.

Still very happy with my setup. Everything running in class A !

I superglued some thin copper strips to my 627's to keep them cool.
The temperature stays below 50 degrees now.

I have just checked out the DAC7. It sounds quite good though I have concerns about the power supply design as there is a lot of heat being generated.

Hi all. I am not very expirienced in schematics and searching for some "stable" product.

Base DAC5 + TE7022 is ~100$. "Advanced" DAC7 (OPA627) + CM6631 is ~150$. How do you think if such expensive upgrade significantly improves the quality?

Thanks.
