Default Rotel Michi RHCD10 discrete I/V & buffer

PCM63> discrete i/v >discrete buffer
What do you I/V gurus think of this complex setup and it's not even balanced.

I can tell you reports are that it sounds really good and very powerful.

The use of, what appears to be, 2,000uF of e-lytic output coupling cacitance seems odd.

The bipolar offset current is supplied from discreate CCS!
I have never seen this kind of circuit in market products.

Yeah it would be nice if the output buffer were direct coupled, but you can bet your life that there could be fairly high DC offset in front of those caps, a dc servo could do the trick!
But it's the I/V that has me fascinated, can some else give some feedback on how it all performs/looks. Bet if Jocko was here he'd have something to say (remember him?)

Gee, normally the I/V gurus would have plenty to say about how good/bad this I/V stage is. Is it that it's too out there or too wrong for you comment on?, common guys your usually all over this sort of thing like a rash.

Hi George ,

i am not a guru or a ingeneur , but this is very astonishing for me .
Normally i like Rotel ( have a 991 AE ) , but this I/V thinkie is so
complex that i am in awe for the simple circuit from Mr. Pass ,
or from Euvl , or from Owen .

The first stage appears to be simply a discrete version of a conventional opamp active i/v, with the only advantage I see being just that it has a much shorter(electrically) & simpler signal path, so much less potential for feedback delay distortion. Likewise, the second stage is a very conventional discrete buffer, with a feedback eq cap for LPF. There is actually very little potential for DC offset, and the output coupling caps could be eliminated if an offset trim control was added to either first or second stage, which would not be hard. Although it's not balanced output, it sure is very push-pull. I don't see much point in going discrete like this without also going single ended & passive iv.
