What's the difference between Marantz CDxx and 74CDxx?

Hello, In my continuous quest for a CD player for my next set-up I found a Marantz 74cd48 for sale at a good price. Since my brother also needs a CD player this seems to be a good candidate (i.e. if it doesn't satisfy me I'll give it to him!)

However I only heard of Marantz models with CDxx names, so what's the difference between them?

Searching for the type of mechanism I see it mounts a CDM12.1 (but another database says 691.30278, are they the same?), it this a good one?

there are many Marantz models with the CD74xx number: just consider the last two (CD-48 in your case) which you'll find written on the front of the player.
The 691.30278 should be the Philips code for laser replacement.
