Denon DCD-1015 - problem with optical pick-up

The cd-player doesn't play the discs. After loading - the disc doesn't spin, the optical pick-up doesn't focus, the display shows zeros. I checked 3 pick-ups: original, brand-new and used but working from other player. What could be damaged? The flex? What should be checked first?

The laser pick-up is KSS-240A. I checked the flex. It works. Any idea?
