a friend of mine has a Yamaha CD player about 7 years vintage it reads and plays all local CDs including those made on a computer etc...but it does not read any orignal CDs I got from the US. This is a CD player not a DVD player! whats wrong?

Default Cdx 396

I have a Yamaha CDX 396. It's two years old. It plays everything. Some more details?

Actually, I have a friend who lives in Grand Parade, who has an ancient Yamaha player, from the early days of CDs. Don't know how that one behaves now.

Hi

If the CDs you've bought from the US are new, they may be copy protected. That shouldn't be a problem on most CDPs. but since you say the player is old, it might have problems reading the added lines of codes. Just a hunch

it's a problem related to its laser pickup.you better have to change its laser eye.i had a rotel cd player which has almost similar problem,it won't detect original cd's especially which were made in uk or germanyafter changing laser eye it started reading perfectly.so why don't you try changing laser pickup
