Marantz cd 5003 NOS here about 220 usd.....make new audio board and new DAC, huge inner space,....
I agreed that integrated DAC inside player better sonically than outside. Data input in I2S format... |

Funny, there is no such problem over here. Anything with cdm0,1,2,4,12 and maybe even 9 can easily be fixed as there are more than enough second hand donors. Just cdm3 is an exception, but this was hardly used. Guess it's different over in the us/canada.

Of corse if you can get the 840C even better , but for the price i cant see another player in the market that beats the 740C. One guy at Marchand ( the famous electronic crossovers brand) told me that they advised some of their customers who like you wanted to update their cd players to go for the Cambridge audio players (740 or 840C this was 2 years ago).I know arcam cd players sound , i have a alpha 9 too , the CA player doesnt have that warm sound it´s more neutral but much more detailed IMO , there´s another advantage : you can use it as a dac for other Sources like a PC. Another thing i like in this player is the upsample , i´ve heard other players that upsample but not this good. You will find better players but be prepared to spend more money
Another Top player is the Audiolab 8200 or 820CDQ(with digital preamp) Audiolab 8200CDQ CD Player with Built-In Preamplifier 6moons audio reviews: Audiolab 8200CDQ Audiolab 8200CDQ review from the experts at whathifi.com |

i use minidsp now , so i wont buy a new player untill my 740c gives up the ghost , i feed the minidsp digitaly so it acts as a dac making the player basicly a transport.
if you have the money for the audiolab go for it , if you want to speand less go for the cambridge. |
