Hi,
Just got hold of one of these (faulty). Does anyone have a service manual or know where they can be obtained from? Regards Pete |

Can't help with a manual, however...
I have worked on a lot of B&O gear, as a warranty server years ago & since, but never a CDX2. But, if the cd/dac-list info is correct as to CDM-2 mech, then whatever is wrong with it will have a very large chance of being cured by replacing all electrolytic capacitors in the unit that are not Nichicons, and also generally resoldering anything that looks at all questionable. Should be a very nice sounding & excellent tracking unit when working. |

Thanks,
Laser isn't reading the disc which I'm hoping is the normal axial cap problem with the cdm2. Also lid doesn't open without a little help. I was looking for the manual to get the best way to open the casing up, I want to be careful with this machine as, cosmetically, it's in very good condition. Regards Pete |

I'm not sure if Quality Dream Audio would really be considered specialists, since as far as I've seen they're more of a reseller. If you join the beoworld.org site you'll likely see forum threads discussing your issue (or similar cd players such as the CD3300). For a one-year membership, which I think is around 30GBP, you'll also have access to all of the B&O service manuals.
That series of CD players was notorious for needing the caps changed, so I'd probably do that first before even trying to trouble shoot it. The door problem isn't major since it at least does open. There's a small rubber pulley inside that turns the mechanism to lift the lid, and over the 20+ years it rots and slips. You simply find one of similar size and replace it. Opening the unit is a bit odd though. If I remember correctly you lay it upside down and unscrew the bottom cover. The guts are attached to the upper half. Austin |

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get hold of a cdx manual, the casing is the same, so I can see how to get into it now. It is odd as you say.

Internally that is a different beast. Based on philips cd104 with CDM1 and TDA1540. The CD2 is newer, bust still based on a philips player.
Any philips manual from that area with cdm2 should be ok to get the basic idea. Any suggestions on philips players in the forums should help also.

Yep, just using the CDX manual for the dismantling diagrams.
I've restored/modified a few old CDM2/TDA1541 based players in the past so hopefully I can manage without the correct detailed schematics. Regards Pete |
