Seeking warmth and good sound, because sometimes I found this CD player sterile and overly analytical, somewhat harsh and fatiguing.
Is it a good idea to try to replace the NE5532 op amp in my Sony CDP-XA3ES? What do you recommend? improve the sound? OPA627, AD826, BD2134? Should I use the same for the I / V and the output buffer? Someone has done on this CD player? Any better to add? Capacitors, etc..

Almost any newer generation OpAmp will fair better as I/V converter. Or have better results as filtering stage.
Now, if that will really improve the sound, it's up to the original DAC's and OS filter quality. You cannot improve what you don't have

Opa 2604 on output would probably be reasonable starting point towards what you are looking, that's what sony used in XB 930 UK edition i have. Or, you could check the swap meet, there is someone selling his zapfilters right now. If you decide to go that route, it will take it to completely different levels.

That's a SMD part... You have DIP.
LM4562/LME49720 are avail in 8DIP and metal can TO-99 that match the holes. Last edited by SoNic_real_one; 30th January 2012 at 04:46 PM. |

+ 1, Yes. While you are there, please also consider changing those cheap cinch's with something better and upgrading your clock, it made a big difference in my Sony at the time. Install DIP sockets and you can try different opamps until you are happy with the marriage with the rest of your system and your ears.
Happy tweaking! |

But is faster...
Anyway, personally didn't find it really better sounding - compared with LM4562. As for 5532 - it's just a mediocre OpAmp for the I/V job. 5534 is better than it, but there are other singles that are also above 5534: http://www.esstech.com/PDF/Applicati...PCB_Layout.pdf Last edited by SoNic_real_one; 31st January 2012 at 01:15 AM. |
