First - why did you feel the need to open two threads on this?
Second - what's that "24bit HDCD filter"? There are only HDCD decoders and they have anyway 16 bit input and maximum (theoretical) analog output equivalent to some 20 bit (but converted is analog, not digital).

About HDCD and how it looked promising: HDCD Spreads Further into the Audio Kingdom | Stereophile.com. After that, Microsoft bought them and burried the format, DVD-A and SACD took a swing at high-res formats and finally iPod destroyed any leftover of quality audio in the mainstream minds.

The fact that the modules show "20bit" or "22bit" doesn't mean that they will play true 20-22 bit from a 16 bit CD. Those filters will interpolate the data to create a smoother signal, but it will be an estimated one.
The HDCD module in that specific DAC was based on the PMD-100 - the only decoder available at that time:
Product Review -
It will output data in 16, 20, 22 or 24 bit, but in the end, analog capability will be at 20 bit level at best (depending of the disc mastering).
Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, just wanted to clarify.
