Are you certain the original chip was a single opamp & not a dual? If the + voltage supply comes to pin 7, then it was a single & should be working. If it is on pin 8, then the stock was a dual, and you would need a Brown Dog singles-to-dual dip converter to use a pair of 627's in each spot. Personally, I think the 627 is way too unnaturally colored, and always instead use the OPA134, which happily comes in dual as OPA2134.

do you think I have damaged the two I installed ?
It's unlikely that you damaged the 627's, as you did not reverse polarity, you simply applied B+ voltage to an offset trim pin.
