Hi,
Folks I have this player with me from quite a few years and I had kept it as backup for emergencies ! I have a Marantz CD53MkII and was trying to mod it,but couldn't do it due to lack of time and need components availability in my city ! But recently the transport gear gave up and I couldn't use the player at all So out came this old player and the moment I played it,I was like WTF............ it sounded very bad compared to the earlier one,So I thought to do some mods to make this player acceptable or even improve the sound from the marantz CDP So here I ask all you knowlegable folks to suggest me some mods so as to make this player sound better or make it sound good. Here's the complete internal pics of the same,I tried searching for the schematic or service manual to see what can be done but alas none found ! So my only hope is to have some from nice fellas here !I also would love if I can add a tube stage to it instead of the.......... so please do let me know all that I can do to this player. Regards.

I must say that I don't think it is possible to make this player sound any better. It uses a reliable Sanyo laser/mech, but the electronics are entirely terrible. The chips are all "house numbered", by Samsung I think, meaning that they are not known types. This means no possible chip upgrades. Also, it appears quite surely that the dac & output stages are all in the one dac chip, which means not even output opamp upgrade possible. There is not much else to upgrade beyond power supply components, and I am sure the best supply upgrading will not get good sound from this. Sorry to have to tell you this, but the player is as good as it will ever get.
