Luxman has launched a budget DAC (DA-100 retailed at $780) based on Texa's PCM5012 chip.
In PMC5102 datasheet is written that it has an "integrated 2,1Vrms driver" and there's no need of coupling capacitors. ESS launched a similar chip, the ES9023.
The abovementioned retail price for a Luxman product is surprisingly low. I reckon it was possible due to cheaper implementation cost of PCM5102 over traditional DACs.What is the real advantage of this type of DAC? I mean, in a DAC design, where it's possible to cut cost by adopting DACs with integrated driver?

They just sound very nice when done correctly.
And the sales price has nothing to do with manufaturing costs, but only perceived market value (what the customer will pay).
