Questions on CD67/AD825 upgrade
I've decided to try LC Audio's AD825 opamp upgrade on my Marantz CD67SE and I'm not sure I have all the facts yet. I've determined that the 67 has the 16.9344 Mhz clock and two JRC 2114D opamps. Do the two separate opamps require two of their $39.95 modules? And, despite knowing that I need a 2114 replacement I'm still having trouble determining which one of their packages is the correct one. Type I or type III?

I think the AD825 is a single op amp and the 2114 is a dual chip.
I removed the 2114 from my CD67 and put machined DIP sockets in its place. I first tried OPA2134 which was much better than the 2114. Recently I got the AD826 chip and tried that. It is even better than the OPA2134.

With a socket , you can plug in any chip you want provided they are dual opamps. The AD825 modules you plan to use are also available as 8 pin DIP compatible I think.
In any case somewhere on the forum I found some people prefering the sound of the AD826 to the 825. Much cheaper also. The 826 is less than US$3/- .

LC Audio is promising "superchips" in a couple of weeks that will have "far better sound quality" than the AD825. I think I'll wait for the new stuff.

Hello Dan,

you can find AD825 with a double module in France at or have ad827 dip 8 samples from analog device. The modules from selectronic can be use directely like a dip8. I have mounted this module on a philips CD723 and a Harman Kardon HD750 and the sound is beautifull. You can find informations on my site , choose Lec. CD rubric.

I saw that someone use opa2604 ( but I think that ad825 or ad827 are better.

Use AD826 and solder it directly on to the PCB. All IC sockets and daughterboards (for SM devices like AD825) will produce unwanted capacitance, which will seriously degrade sound at HF. Contact resistance between IC socket pins and IC pins will do the same, especially after a while...
