Just recently I found a Denon DVD A1 at our local re-cycling center which had the top removed but was still in place. I went to pick it up and was amazed at the weight of the thing!? I have since discovered that they were in the order of £2500.00 to buy new!?
Of course I knew that it must have a fault; this appears to be a problem with the disc clamping system. On the main drive spindle that the DVD/CD sits on there is a circular metal part that has broken up revealing magnetised particles. I assume that this part is/was used to attract the loose spindle in the mechanism's top plate that sits on top of the DVD/CD when the disc is loaded and which clamps the disc in place whilst it spins up to read. Without resorting to replace the entire DVD transport mechanism has anyone got any ideas as to how to fix it? It's got to be worth a go! Thanks |
