I recently bought a CD63 (basic) with the idea of modding it as described in this forum.
However when I got it the player "skipped" or "blanked" just a note or even half a note occasionally. I left it on repeat-random for a day or so but the problem didn't go away. I was worried that it Could turn out to be the laser and (having read this forum) I thought I'd turn the laser current up a bit. Result- total disaster - more skipping and occasional refusal to read a disc at all. However, while the player was in bits I noticed some yellow-brown goop on the laser carrier. So, throwing caution to The wind I stripped the laser carrier down to its components and cleaned all the goop off and lubricated it with vaseline. (So it has at least two uses then). Result! the player now works perfectly. Thanks to everyone here for giving me the courage to try this. There's no stopping me now... |

Thanks for taking the time, reports like this give me the encouragement I need. I bought my CD63 new when it was introduced and used it a few years. It was put out of service many years ago as it started skipping now and then. Apart from that, the player looks and feels like new. After reading this forum and downloaded the necessary documents I will now remove the laser carrier and see if it's just a matter of cleaning/lubricating. If not I'll order a new VAM1202 and fire up the soldering iron. Again thanks!

My remote doesn't work with the switch in either position? Can it be bypassed or shorted out?
