Default Most advanced cd-player?

Searching the web for the Thorens TD166 thread I came acrross this: http://www.theanalogdept.com/misc_photo.htm
Is this the most advanced technique in cd players?
Did anyone ever see this? Or even better hear it?
Or is it simply a joke?
If not, we'll have to make a new forum: BioAudio.
