Default iPod Touch DC+buzz on headphone output

Hi guys, first time posting over here - I'm usually in the Speakers section.

Anyway, recently my (new-ish, ~10 months old) iPod Touch has developed noise and a lot of DC (2.73v) on the headphone output.

As you can imagine, this causes annoyance when plugged in to any amplified system: there are several thumps as the volume slider moves from 0 (unplugged) to ~50% (plugged in), and this happens with any speakers I've tried.

There's also a buzz that makes it unlistenable, except through headphones where it's barely audible.
Used with an iPod dock, there is no problem, so its definitely the headphone out that's the problem.

Things I've tried:
- the usual shut it down and restart it.
- a restore via iTunes (which lost all my apps ).

There's not much info on the interweb apart from send it back to Apple.

Any thoughts? Anyone know how long I can expect to wait if I did send it back?

Thanking you in advance,

Chris

Well ur assumtion is rite that the problem is with the head phone insertion point.. now what ul need to do is (if u r electronically incline/qualified) is open the pod and make sure no capacitor or resistor associated with the output is damaged or loose or there is any build up of dirt..(it happens)... or u can jus take it to a technician and let them do it for u..
