My understanding is that the *only* change is the way the WaveIO identifies to the USB host. The sonic benefit may come by being able to use a lower power (potentially less noisy) PC for the USB host.

I have just put my name in the WaveIO daughter board list.
Thanks. |

It's solved now thus you can download the dfucons tool now. I guess you took the other path to upload the new firmware by choosing the appropriate option in the TUSBAudio Control Panel. Unfortunately it cannot reverse it to defaults hence my recommendation for dfucons alternative. Quote:

I thought once I flashed it, it wouldn't work bus powered anymore (without reverting to defaults). However I am listening to it right now powered by the PC and I haven't done anything....so that's cool, the one firmware is good for both.
Thanks for dfucons!

I thought that too even so I don't think that all PCs/MACs will act the same... I still prefer to change the descriptors accordingly, just to be in "USB specs"

When using shielded cable for the I2S connection, does the shield need to connect to GND?

If you want that the shield be active, yes in both ends or only in the load end.

In that case I prefer to connect just one end to avoid ground loops
EDIT: Should I connect it to the GND at the WaveOI or the other end?

I do the same and always only connect the load end (Erno Borbely advice).

is choosing a less facetious title...

sort the ground loop out, shield one end is not terribly effective
