Default quad77 cdp, again

back again, the quad77 cd which i earlier repaired is now faulty again. i gave this unit to a mate as i got a prettier carbon version.
anyways i posted it to him well packed, and it has worked fine for some weeks but suddenly refused to play discs. so he drove down with it last weekend as i had a new boxed mech for it. i thought i would be a simple mech swap, but it turns out something more serious is afoot.

with the new mech installed (esd protection used) the laser works, as does the sled but the spindle motor refuses to work. i swapped motors, and cable looms but still the motor wont spin??? both motors work fine when connected to a 9v battery which would imply something else wrong in the unit. also, quad will not provide a service manual. any ideas?

cheers, jim
