I wanted a cheap mp3 player to feed into my new MM sys and for portable all around use.
So, I got a cheap, no name ($11) 1 gig player from direct from China. It worked and sounded good enough but it did not really have all the features I wanted like file search, a physical volume control, etc but, for $11 what can one ecpect. However, after about 2 weeks it stated to act real flakey like loosing files, etc and now, it's completel dead and in the garbage. So after much searching I ordered a 4 gig, red, "Sandisk Sansa clip plus". ...... Red as it's easy to spot so I wont msiplace it. ![]() So was this a good choice? It does not pay to by cheap electronics and I should have kown better!

In case anyone is interested.........
I got the "Sandisk Sansa clip plus" and it actually does sound pretty good for a mp3 player. At least, much better than the one that died.

I've considered getting one of those myself. I like the fact that they can play flac files and the sound quality is said to be really good.

Keep one thing in mind however, many are having problems with XP recognizing it as I did. I had to use my Vista sys to load songs into it. Yes XP is an older sys but, Sandisk list it as a supported sys even though many (most?) can not connect to it. Also, the only USB cable that seems to work with it is the one that came with it and it is only about 8 inches long..... very strange! I e-mailed sandisk support about these isuses as others have but, I do not expect a real resolution for the problems. It's all a shame as otherwise, it's a very good unit. Update:
I finally got it to to be recognized with XP although Sandisk support was absoluly no help at all. I'm really starting to like this tiny, full feature mp3 player for reasons other than the good sound. The display, although tiny, is extremely easy to read and navigate and the buttons are suprisingly easy to use. The clip itself is very handy to clip on whatever clothing you wish. BTW, the "red" is actually a dark maroon. Now, I just have to get some very lighweight headphones (for outdoor use) as I really hate earbuds. I can not keep them in my ears at all. Any suggestions? Koss MAC-5 are about the best sounding cheap headphones IMO. I paid $15 new for mine.

If you don't mind ear clips... I think the Koss KSC75 for about $15. Crazy reviews and there are even mods for it!

Thanks for the suggestions. I wiil check them out.
![]() As for the USB cable, through trial and error, I have discovered that I need a quality USB2 cable with a ferrite ring for it to be recognized in spite of what Sansisk support says. BTW, I recently read that there is a Euro law that states that MP3 players shiiped/sold in Europe can ony deliver half volume (via its firmware) as compared to the rest of the world. Is that true?. I believe you are correct that players configured for EU have their output limited. I don't think it is a hardware issue though.
You might consider installing RockBox. A god resource for problems/discussions, as well as installing RockBox, is anythingbutipod.com: Sansa Clip / Clip+ Rockbox - abi>>forums |
