On colder days and in the mornings, when I load a CD, the player makes a slight grinding, scraping noise and often, after a second or two, gives up trying and ejects the CD. It sometimes works OK on the 2nd or 3rd attempt. I presume it is the clamping mechanism at fault, perhaps the lubrication has dried out. Does that sound possible? What would be the remedy? The unit is under guarantee but I would rather not have to post it back to the [internet] supplier as that would cost about UKP40 insured and every shipment of a CD player risks damage to the sensitive opto/mechanics. Any advice gratefully received.

Not sure what the mech is in the Kandy but the symptoms could be nothing more than a stretched loading belt causing the mech not to fully load correctly. The grinding could be the CD still touching the tray because the platter (on the sub chassis) hasn't lifted fully.
Have you had the top off to have a look ?

No, I haven't had the top off yet. I was hoping someone would say it just needs a bit of this or a bit of that before I invalidate the guarantee.

Your going to have to have a look if you want to find out... and it's free to look
![]() Belts on many mechs are a cause of problems. Symptoms fit... usually worse when cold.
