Hi everyone, my veteran M555ES (400 disk) died recently, I am assuming from laser death but was wondering what your opinions are? I removed the cover from the machine (the warranty long since expired) put in a CD. The turntable would bring the CD to the loader, the loader would pick up the disk....from here several things would happen;
1. sometimes the disk would spin, stop, ejected...reloaded and ejected again. It would do this a few times before giving up. 2. the disk would spin, music would play but skip and jump all over the place then stop and the disk would be ejected. 3.the disk would load, not spin and be ejected. I would assume that this is all because of the laser not being able to properly read the disk but value any opinions you might have as I would like to repair this player if I can. The laser assembly is KSS-213D which thankfully are readily available on ebay. Any info or help would be appreciated. |

Have you cleaned the lens ?
There's a fair chance the laser is the problem but not guaranteed. Spindle motors can be a problem (if it's a small DC type), also general mechanical problems with the sled causing sticking. And you have the added complication of a multidisc player. A 'scope check of the RF signal from the pickup is the real test to help see what's happening.
