I found this when I searched, so I guess it's a dead issue...
Recommended mods to a Theta Data Basic II transport However, I found some photos of a rather extensively modded Data Basic II on line, and was wondering if the experts here could comment on what was done and why. The site is all in Japanese, so I couldn't read any of it. It looks straight-forward; however when I try to search the maker of the clock, I get a japanese site. I assume there are englisg speaking sellers with similar (or better?) outboard clocks. Also, the hook-up is confusing to me. A GND and two CLK connections are shown. Is this correct? Is there a polarity or something that has to be adhered to? Anyway, here's some pics (outboard clock mod):

And here are the other mod photos I found:
It looks like the power switch is hooked directly to the fuse and input connection to bypass board traces I assume. That much I can figure out. The big yellow things: Filter caps maybe? Something else?

More photos of the mods:
I'm guessing the caps on the transport board wre up-graded; similar with the main board?

And still more!
Power supply caps probably changed, and a transformer was replaced with an R-core one, mounted forward of the original power board... Also, the SPDIF cablewas replaced here with a shielded one. I don't know the value of that mod inside a metal box, but... Some other caps have been changed as well.

The aftermarket clock is similar to many available on Ebay.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Low-Jitter-clo...item33556beada The clock module is available on its own. Valab 1PPM 11.2896 MHz Low Jitter TCXO on eBay (end time 09-Mar-11 17:05:57 GMT) Although other better clocks are available.. .

That appears to be the chip in the clock in my first post.
I assume I would need the rest of the board too... Maybe VALab sells the complete board?

I must have replied before you finished typing...
Anyway I am now watching those two items. It appears that board is different from the one in my first post, but should be workable. You mention 'better' clocks. Could you enlighten me further?

The board is different but almost the same if you look closely.
It's really the "chip" which makes the difference in this type of clock. Similar "chips" are available from Tent Labs. An example of a better clock is :- Premium low jitter clock cd player dac - Fidelity Audio on eBay (end time 19-Mar-11 19:45:50 GMT) andy .
