Did you use any liquid ? Alcohol etc.?
Only proper lens cleaner should be used with clean cotton buds. Does the swing arm mechanism move freely from stop to stop ? Do you have a manual ? have you tried setting the player into diagnostic mode ? Andy .

To be honest, it is a long time since I looked at an old Rotel.
If I remember correctly, it has the cdm4 and is based on a Philips player. Search the forum for CDM 2 and cdm4 problems. There are capacitors used which are famous for going "off". ( 47uF ) If you do change them, DO NOT increase the value or use Oscons. Use like for like. Also read this thread ....CDM4/19 skips Andy .

First check has to be the RF signal (eye pattern) as viewed on an oscilloscope to confirm amplitude etc is good.
As Andy says, failing caps are a real problem with the old Philips units... Isn't there a 33uf cap that always gets mentioned, is that on this unit ?
