I have been looking for some time now and have not been able to find a way to play WAV files from a USB flash drive player using AES/EBU to my Behringer DCX2496 digital input.
Any ideas? Will I have to make a player? Thanks Andy |

Any player with electrical SPDIF out should do the trick. Of course not Toslink/optical.
But any unbalanced SPDIF or balanced AES signal I've thrown at the DCX works. What troubles are you finding? |

Not sure I understand what you need - a USB to AES/EBU converter? jan didden

I want to put WAV files on a USB flash drive and then play them thru the DCX2496 without doing all the D/A and A/D convershoins.
As far as I can tell I can not put S/PDIF signals into the DCX2496 AES/EBU input without some kind of adapter. So I would like a player for the USB flash drive with AES/EBU XLR output. Andy |

Does it have to be USB? If not, have a look at the QLS QA550, which plays WAV files from SD cards.

You don't need no stinkin' XLR out.
Just make an RCA to XLR (Male) cable. Connect RCA ground to XLR pin 3, RCA center to XLR pin 2. This should work fine. "If" there are any ground problems, just put a little jumper between pins 1&3 on the XLR. The Qa-550 has coax out, too - so you can use that if you like. |

The QA 550 ONLY has digital outputs. The QA 350 has digital and analog outputs--confusing numbering, I know.

Good point! The 350 would be easier to monitor (solo) because of its headphone jack.
Speaking of which... Why would you want to go directly from the player to the DCX? Wouldn't you go thru a mixer first? How would you control volume if directly connected? How would you mix in a VOG mic? |
