I had wanted to use the Playstation 2 Optical Out , i'm not sure what standards are in place but it functions with audio aswell as dvd. I just wanted something simple, just say stereo out no thx/dts just a simple optical decoder.....
if that makes any sense.. andy |

OK. You want a D/A converter? You need analog audio? I'm not sure what format the playstation outputs. If it is raw audio, i.e. not decoding to stereo or something like that when you play a DVD, then you got only noise at the output. The easiest way is to get a Dolby Digital/DTS amplifier and try.

I believe you are talking about the IEEE1394 port (aka Firewire aka iLink). Very different.

The PS2 has a user-configurable optical output. You can select plain old stereo PCM as an output. I have in the past recorded to minidisc using it.
