Default Oscillator Freq. vs. playback time

I have replaced ordinary 24.576mhz crystal of X-Fi based soundcard via four-pin clock oscillator with same value. But playback became exactly 1/4 faster. Is this mean my actual clock frequency must be 18.432 mhz (1/4 lower of 24.576) ?

I have discussed this situation in this thread:

Fast playback after replacing oscillator of X-Fi

I thought that discussing what is causing my problem in this thread would be a better idea.

Thanks.

The original circuit might have been using overtones or otherwise been able to oscillate at other than the marked crystal frequency. The self-contained can only oscillates at the marked freq, so my guess is you have to use the original crystal. Also, you might find that only certain crystals will work in that mode. Or, I could be completely off base!

I think card's hw resampling features went nonfunctional after removing ordinary crystal. It's fine with sw resampling to multipliers of 48kHz. I don't know how to help for hw resampling features became functional again with external clocking. Just hope to sw resampling (Sox what i use) rivals to x-fi's resampling algos.
