Red face Sony SCD-555es reading issue

I have a Sony SCD-555es,the player plays CD well, but when I play SACD,the disk is always in reading mode, and won't stop until turn off the player. Is this the issue of the pickup or the IC?Thanks for reply in advance.

hi
i had a sacd777es and that did the same thing, unfortanly on mine it turned out to be a laser issue and had to get another one,did the same thing 11 months later so sold it on and havent touched a sony again...shame as i loved that player,i may of been unlucky but since my mates did the same later im not so sure...can you tell it still cuts deep when i talk about it
have you tried cleaning the laser/assembly,sounds very much where the problem lies.
all the best

hi
i cant speak for your country but the dealings ive had with sony uk repairs have been a nightmare.
try to have ago yourself, the worse that can happen if you get it wrong is that you will have to put it in for repair,on the other had you may surprise yourself and do yourself proud!
all the best and good luck

Hi,

I had the same but then with normal CD-s and after a few months also SACD. Changed the laser-mechanic-unit and the problem was solved. There are servicemanuals on the internet so it is easy to work that out. Look on ebay for the unit.

i have replace the pickup, the result is still remain.when the disk is insert to the player, press sacd button,it display "TOC reading",and the disk never play.the situation is as same as the old pickup,is that to say the root cause is not the pickup but the other parts?

Hi,
If your 555 is very little used, this low usage may cause some problems of TOC Reading.
My SCD-1 is used once a month or less, and have this problems IF I do not made a long break in of 4 or 6 hours before each listening session.
Hope this help,

Um, the KHM230AAA transport unit generally costs a whole lot more than 20USD, by several factors. There are a couple ebay sellers that sell just the laser for about 90usd, and the complete transport unit can be had from other places for nearly 10X what you paid.
I was all set to email you about where you got the unit for 20 USD. But since it didn't solve the issue, and the unit was dirt cheap, maybe it's not the best.
