Default Philips CD880

Hi there,

I've recently got hold of a CD880 and was thinking about putting it up for sale it's a fantastic machine but in reality I'm never going to use it, and that would really be a shame. It's hardly been used, no cosmetic problems, no scratches or anything 100% looks like new. Never been modded, never had any problems, all thats missing is the transport screws, and the box and packing. Was thinking of ebay with collection only, anyone got any ideas what it's worth? Even if I striped it for parts the DAC's and Mech would fetch a penny I guess, but would rather it went complete and to a good home.

Fine piece of kit, a true bit of kit from time, built like a tank and dripping with bling!

It's only worth what someone will pay !!!

On the basis of stripping it down for spares, it must be worth at least £100.

Try a Buy-it -Now auction for, say, £275 with the "Make an offer" option active then you may get some idea.

Andy

PS. I will give you £20 now!!!!! Hehe!

Cool, I'll give it a few days then take some pictures of the player. Then I'll think about sticking it up on there.

£20 the fibre optic bling on the front panel has to be worth £20 of anyones money looks like a mini disco when turned on.

Hello: I have a Philips CD880 also. I bought it new and had it modified by Soloist Audio in the late 80's. Been working great for all these years until lately. I sent it to Atlas Audio in Pittsburgh to be repaired and they could not fix it. I am waiting for it to be returned to me here in Hawaii and going to decide where and who else can fix it. I saw one on Ebay recently sell for $590 plus $127 in shipping, so they still have good value. Good luck...If I had the extra money I would buy it myself. Great machine.

Default Broken Philips CD880

Well, just got the player back from Atlas Audio. Everything lights up and the drawer opens and shuts. I opened the top and inserted a disc and it starts but "wobbles" a little and then stops. It will not play any sound or switch tracks, it just spins a few times and then stops. Any ideas what could be the problem. Atlas Audio had the player for months and could not figure it out. Either, they did not really try or its really a complicated fix. I am not a tech as I mentioned earlier, but if anyone has any suggestions I am willing to get the tools and try to repair it myself with someones help. I hate to just box it up and sell it for parts. Someone give me some clues at to what would make it start and stop. Like I said, the little metal disc that the CD sits on seems to wobble and maybe that
is the issue?
Let me know.
Ron

If by wobbles a little, do you mean the disk is not clamping?

If you insert a disk, does it spin for a few seconds?

Does it 'sort of vibrate' a little before spimmimg ?

Smile Philips CD880

Basically when the disc is in, the clamp folds down on it and it sits on a little metal platter with a rubber ring around it, right next to the eye that reads the disc. The disc starts to spin, maybe 3 to 6 times around then slowly dies and stops completely. If I hit play, again it just repeats the same over and over. The metal disc that the CD sits on top of with the rubber rings seams to "wobble" as though its been damaged... I never remember seeing ir do this before the repair people got hold of it.
I hope that helps. Is that metal disc that it sits on a replaceable item or is it part of a large mechanism that is really hard to get to and replace?
Thanks.
Ron
