Asynchronous Clocking

I've spent the last couple of days reading up on clocks, clock power supply improvements, and asynchronous reclocking of DAC inputs to improve jitter. Mostly, I've read the works posted by Elso and Guido, which is perhaps not exhaustive on this topic.

However, I also came across several articles published in The Audio Amateur from 1994-1995, entitled, "Digital Audio Jitter: RIP?". There are 4 similar articles, written by Youtsey.

In these articles, the author based his modifications around the AD1891 sample rate converter chip, and also adds additional flip flops to reclock signals.

So, my question is how does the asynchronous reclocking approach differ from the approach based on the AD1891 or similar sample rate converter technique?

Thanks and regards,

Rob Weinstock
