Has anyone had any experience with the 'Hlly High End DTS AC3 5.1' :
HLLY HIGH END DTS AC3 5.1 DIGIT AUDIO DECODER DAC [AC3] - $248.00 : DAC,Audio Amplifier,Hifi Amplifier,Tube Amplifier,Hlly Audio, Hlly Electronics I would like to use this as a cheap dolby digital decoder and input selector to feed some GainClone mono blocks.

I think they are too expensive. DolbyDigital and DTS are lossy formats, you don't need hi-quality audio for them.
You might find something like Creative DDTS-100. |

'Too expensive'? They are £128. I don't really think this is expensive for a dolby decoder with 4 digital inputs, but I wanted to know what the quality is like. Eg. has anyone used one of these in conjunction with a power amp and had any problems, hissing, humming etc. you know the kind you get with cheap surround systems.

I too would like to read anyone's experiences of this device.
I have similar plans, but more along the lines of diy tripath monoblocks. My main priorities are stereo from my Musical Fidelity X-Ray CD player, stereo from my PC and 5.1 from my DVD player, in that order (maybe hi-def surround in future?). I'd pay twice this for these features if the sound quality could match the DAC's in the X-Ray. |

Have a look at this: Decoderstation 5 - PC Speakers - Teufel Audio
No personal experience, but it should be a bit easier/safer to buy from here and return it if it is utter rubbish. /U. |
